Dermal Fillers in The Woodlands, TX

Facial fillers have become widespread in recent years, continually improving and expanding as companies develop specialized fillers for different uses. It’s widely known that fillers are convenient, reversible, and affordable, yet still offer many similar benefits to surgery. What many do not fully understand is that it takes the expertise of a highly trained facial plastic surgeon to truly provide the best dermal filler results.

Dr. W Marshall Guy, an expertly trained and double board-certified facial plastic surgeon in The Woodlands, specializes in surgical and non-surgical facial procedures. His patient-first approach, innate artistic eye, and considerable training have made him one of the best dermal filler specialists in The Woodlands and surrounding areas of Texas.

What are the Benefits of Facial Fillers?

Cosmetic fillers are a group of products that are less invasive than surgery, used to augment the face’s soft tissues. Dr. Guy frequently uses fillers:

  • To improve cheek fullness.
  • To fill out depressed scars.
  • To restore volume that has become lax with aging.
  • On deep lines and creases around the mouth (melolabial folds, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines).
  • On fine lines around the face.
  • To add volume to the lips.
  • Between the eyes, nose, and cheek called the tear trough.

What Types of Dermal Fillers Can I Choose From?

Dr. Guy knows that subtle distinctions can make all the difference in achieving the look you want. How much filler, what exact spot, and what type are all vital things to consider as you and Dr. Guy formulate your unique filler plan. Because of this, we offer a broad scope of fillers.

Dr. Guy uses Juvéderm Ultra XC, versatile hyaluronic acid fillers, to augment various facial attributes. Like the other more commonly used HA-based fillers, it includes lidocaine to make your injection much more comfortable. This is a very versatile filler that is great for lip augmentation as well as helping to define the jawline.  It can also be used in the nasolabial folds and marionette lines, which are the lines found around your mouth.

Juvéderm Ultra XC can last up to a year.  In more mobile areas like the lips the clinical benefit won’t be quite as long. The more mobile an area, the more it tends to make any filler dissipate faster than a less mobile area such as the cheeks. Because it tends to pull in more water (hydrate more) than some of the other fillers, it is exemplary for adding fullness to the lips and softening the deeper folds around the mouth. However, this makes it less than ideal for very fine lines or the tear trough area because it tends to look too full and puffy in these areas. Your results and filler longevity will largely depend on the injection area and how metabolically active you are.

Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC can help restore your profile to its natural shape.  It is a little more firm than Juvéderm Ultra XC.  Although it is approved for many areas, Dr. Guy prefers to use it to fill in the area of the temple.  The main distinction between Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC is that Ultra Plus XC maintains a thicker consistency, is injected more deeply, and treats areas with move severe wrinkles and more significant volume loss.

The difference between Juvederm’s Voluma XC and Ultra XC products is primarily in product thickness and how well they are cross-linked (essentially how the parts hold hands). Voluma XC is a denser product that is more cross linked, which allows it to add more of a lift. It’s also more enduring, with studies indicating that it can last up to two years in the cheek area. Because of its thickness, it’s ideal for deeper injections in the cheek and deep folds around the mouth. Just like Juvederm Ultra XC, it also contains lidocaine to make for a more pleasant patient experience.

One of the newer products from the Juvederm family, Volbella also has the cross linking technology that Voluma XC has, although it is a thinner product with less lifting ability. This non-surgical lip augmentation treatment can plump the lips and reduce fine lines around the mouth, also known as perioral lines. This product is very similar to Voluma XC in that it can last up to a year but will largely depend on a variety of factors. It also contains a small amount of lidocaine to keep you comfortable during your treatment.

Vollure is the newest product from the Juvederm family, based on the same cross linking technology as Voluma and Volbella. It maintains an intermediate thickness, which allows it to be excellent in the folds around the mouth without pulling in as much water as Juvederm Ultra XC. Juvederm Vollure primarily treats moderate to severe lines in the lower face- specifically oral commissures, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines.

Belotero, another HA-based filler, has a soft, gel-like consistency. The hyaluronic acid in the product binds with the water in your skin to subtly fill in lines and wrinkles, correct under-eye bags, contour the cheeks and jawline, plump your lips, and fix nose bumps. Some Belotero products have more volume, which makes them useful for enlarging your lips, cheeks, or chin.  Given its thin nature, Dr. Guy likes to use it in the tear trough and for fine lines. Belotero lasts roughly 6 to 18 months, depending on the location of the injection.

Sculptra, another FDA-approved dermal filler, corrects moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds over a series of treatments. Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid, a substance that promotes collagen production and is absorbed by your body over time. Once injected, Sculptra plumps the skin and restores collagen, giving you amazing results that can endure for years. Sculptra differs from other dermal fillers in that it does not contain hyaluronic acid (HA) or artificial collagen to volumize target areas.  Instead, it works to stimulate your own body to make collagen.  This makes it an ideal product for patients with deep hollows below the cheekbones.

Radiesse is another non-HA filler that contains calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA). When combined with gel, this substance forms a thicker filler material that is useful when placed in areas like the cheeks, jawline, and hands. It is ideal for enhancing areas that undergo severe volume loss, lasting up to 18 months. For the hands it is one of our go-to fillers to create a more youthful contour.

Restylane is an HA-based filler from Galderma. Similar to how Allergan has its Juvéderm line of products, the Restylane family includes Restylane, Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft (formerly known as Perlane), Restylane Refyne, Restylane Defyne, and Restylane Kysse. Restylane is an ideal filler for the tear trough area because of its thickness and fluidity of injection. It tends to pull in less water than Juvederm Ultra XC.  We use this to our advantage in the tear trough because it is less likely to lead to prolonged swelling and lumpiness in the thin skin of the tear trough.

Restylane silk is the thinnest filler offered, which makes it ideal for a superficial injection into the fine lines around the mouth and face. It’s also fantastic for adding lip definition without increasing volume. If you’re looking for more lip volume, Juvederm Ultra XC or Restylane Kysse is likely the way to go.

Formerly known as Perlane, Restylane Lyft is the thickest product that Galderma offers. It was rebranded when it received FDA approval for cheek augmentation. Similar to Juvederm Voluma XC, cross linking allows it to last longer than the other Galderma products. It is an excellent option for providing a more youthful cheek contour.

Also based on Galderma’s newest XpresHAn (pronounced expression) technology, Refyne is designed to be more stretchy than conventional fillers. This helps avoid any excess lumpiness that moving your mouth may cause with other fillers, while still providing adequate fullness. Refyne is a choice option for the more active facial lines and is one of Dr. Guy’s favorite injections for the melolabial folds.

Defyne is similar to Refyne, except that it provides more fullness but not as much stretching. It can be used in the same spots as Refyne, but only when the area needs more volume than Refyne can provide. This is helpful for the deeper folds around the mouth.

Kysse is the newest product added to the Galderma family.  It is based on the same XpresHAn technology as Refyne and Defyne.  The difference is that it is a thinner product.  As you can likely guess with its name, it is great for areas around the lips to add more volume than Silk yet maintain a natural appearance and longer duration.

Teoxane’s Resilient Hyaluronic Acid (RHA) filler line presents a brand-new HA-based filler type. This innovative filler design is the first and only filler that targets dynamic facial wrinkles and folds. Found only in high end physician offices, Dr. Guy is the first to offer these innovative fillers in The Woodlands and surrounding areas.  Dr. Guy currently offers RHA 2, RHA 3, and RHA 4, which you can learn more about below.

RHA 2 consists of cross-linked RHA and works best on moderate wrinkles. Dr. Guy typically administers this gel into the mid dermis (middle layer of skin). RHA 2’s HA concentration and viscosity are greater than RHA 1 (coming soon to market), making it effective for deeper wrinkles. RHA 2 fillers typically last 9 to 18 months.

Like RHA 2, RHA 3 is also cross-linked. However, this product is best for improving severe wrinkles. RHA 3 is administered into the skin’s bottom layers (deep dermis) and is used on marionette lines and in the nasolabial folds. RHA 3 maintains a similar concentration of hyaluronic acid as RHA 2; however, it has a higher viscosity; this allows for it to be more suitable for deep wrinkles. RHA 3 results generally last 12 to 20 months.

RHA 4 is a cross-linked gel that Dr. Guy will inject into the deep dermis. The injections reach the superficial subcutaneous tissue to correct moderate to severe dynamic facial wrinkles and folds. RHA 4 has the highest viscosity of all RHA products, allowing for enhanced facial structure and shape. RHA 4’s results typically last between 12 and 22 months.

It's Your Time to Look Your Best!

Dr. Guy is a specialist in all areas of rejuvenation and reconstruction for the face and neck. As a double board-certified and fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Guy knows that everyone ages differently and that there is no one size fits all when it comes to restoring a youthful appearance. From surgical options like a facelift to non-surgical options like Botox® and dermal fillers, there’s never a better time to look your best.

Non-Surgical Facelift in The Woodlands

While a facelift remains the gold standard for facial rejuvenation, a non-surgical facelift is steadily becoming more popular for those who are not ready to endure invasive surgery.

This “facelift” is achieved through non-invasive means, and although it’s temporary, it boasts:

  • Little to no downtime.
  • No scars, anesthesia, or surgery centers.
  • Temporary treatments.
  • A more youthful profile.
  • Volumized and younger-looking skin.
  • A less expensive option.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty in The Woodlands

Similar to the non-surgical facelift, a non-surgical nose job is another option for those who desire a minimal nose augmentation. If you aren’t ready for more involved surgery, or if your concern does not require a full rhinoplasty, this is likely your best option. Given the complexity of this type of injection, both for safety and providing a cosmetic result, a facial plastic surgeon is the ideal injector.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty offers:

  • A more balanced, symmetrical nose.
  • Minimal to no downtime.
  • Affordable treatments.
  • Long-lasting but non-permanent results.
  • Convenient, non-surgical treatments.
  • No scars, anesthesia, or surgery centers.
“I evaluate each patient and listen to what their goals are with a treatment. Once we have determined their goals, we create a customized plan to make sure we can reach these intentions or recommend other treatments that can help achieve the results they seek.”

Unlike dermal fillers, which add volume beneath the skin, neuromodulators (Botox® and Dysport®) actively shut off communications with certain facial muscles. The result is a relaxation of expression lines and dynamic wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyes, around the lips, on the neck, or in other areas. Each injectable treatment offers outstanding benefits, and Dr. Guy can tell you which one would be more beneficial for treating your unique concerns.

Fillers are one of the safest cosmetic treatments out there. Doctors have been refining filler formulations for years, which means they are now better and safer than ever before. Today, facial plastic surgeons safely treat people of many ages and all skin colors.

Dr. Guy’s expertise as a facial plastic surgeon and master injector have given him the training and eye for natural results. Dr. Guy is known for creating natural, subtle, and outstanding results using the least amount of filler possible.
